A seemingly ordinary walk turned, in just a few moments, into a fatal incident.

Discovery and first findings

The alarm was raised around 5:00 p.m. by a couple in the area who heard the screams and called the police. When crews arrived, investigators found the child’s lifeless body, with a towel wrapped tightly around his neck. An autopsy later confirmed that the cause of death was strangulation .

The victim’s fishing equipment was not found at the scene, and this detail quickly became a key component in the investigation. In the days that followed, police arrested two suspects: a 16-year-old boy and a 15-year-old girl, both friends of Théo and present at the water’s edge at the time.

What the suspects told investigators

During the hearings, the two teenagers admitted to attacking and strangling Théo. They claim that the motivation was revenge: they were trying to recover the lures and other fishing accessories that they claimed the boy had taken. The prosecutor coordinating the investigation said that the victim’s equipment was later found at the suspects’ homes, following searches.

Also according to the statements from the investigation, there is a contradictory version regarding how Théo came into possession of the tools: the victim claimed to his parents that the material was given to him by the 16-year-old teenager, while the suspects claim the opposite. Currently, neither of the two young men has any previous convictions.

After the incident, the two allegedly fled the scene, but were eventually caught by law enforcement: the 16-year-old boy was arrested on Monday morning, and the 15-year-old girl turned herself in to the police station the same day and was taken into custody. They are due to appear in court to decide whether to face charges of murder of a minor .

“The two young men were then seen fleeing the scene. In addition, the things that Théo had taken fishing with were not found at the scene,” the prosecutor stated during the investigation, emphasizing the link between the disappearance of the equipment and suspicions of revenge.
